On 12 Mar. 2016, the first art exhibition of 2016 was held in Taoyuan Gallery of Changliu Modern Art Museum on the theme of “Roughness is the way back to truth-Art Exhibition of Fapeng Zhu ”. It is planned by two curators Zhenjun Liu and Yuqing zhang, which invites the renowned artist in Chinese ink and wash painting Fapeng Zhu to present his first solo exhibition in Taiwan.

Fapeng Zhu captures the essence both from oriental and western art to polish his brushwork, by showing the new artistic conception of modern ink and wash painting. He is good at Chinese flower and bird painting and outputs with his lively touches and distinct techniques in varied creations. The exhibition shows over 40 refined art works created by Fapeng Zhu in recent years, ranging from flower, bird, insect, fish to figure and landscape. These freehand brushwork are fantastic and refreshing art, especially the remarkable series of “Fish by Fapeng” and “Crane by Fapeng” .

On 12th Mar., admist a chilly rainy day, guests from all around the world arrived Changliu Modern Art Museum. The opening of art exhibition is unveiled at 3 o’clock in the afternoon in the background of sound music. On behalf of Changliu Modern Art Museum as sponsor, Changmei Art Corporation as organizer and Xiamen ZX Art Gallery, Xiamen Chuangyi Venture Investment Company and Fujian Wuyi Mt. Treasure Museum as co-organizer, the host welcomes all the guests, extends thanks to the congratulations from Zonghuang Xiao, the curator of state-run Art Museum of Taiwan and from all walks in the society, he also greets all the guests for their presence which has added luster for the activity.
Many distinguished guests show up in the opening, including the the father of modern Chinese painting-Guosong Liu and his wife, the previous cultural secretary of Nantou county-Professor Shouzhong You, the president of China International Art Association-Pingheng Liu, Professor Zhenming Li from art department of National Taiwan Normal University, the warden of Yangchou borough, Luzhu district, Taoyuan city-Huancai Xiao, art dealer Zhenjun Liu and the president of Oriental Yipinzhai-Yuhua Shen. Guosong Liu, Pengheng Liu, Zhenming Li, Zhenjun Liu and the artist Fapeng Zhu cut the ribbon together to declaim the formal opening.

Afterwards, Master Guosong Liu is invited to speak on the exhibition. He says he is glad to be invited to attend the grand gathering. From the enjoyment in the exhibition, he feels the innovation out of tradition in Fapeng Zhu’s art works and Fapeng Zhu has carried forward the culture of modern Chinese painting. Master Liu states that, going through the list of well-known modern artists in China, most of them are developed from western art creation. The background of Fapeng Zhu reveals that he transfers to ink and wash painting from oil painting, it is thus evident that he is frequently influenced in the cultural exchanges between China and the western in modern times. The greatest feature of painting in this era is the combination of Chinese and Western elements. Today Master Liu sees this feature in Fapeng Zhu’s creation. We all hope Fapeng Zhu will continue his effort to attain a higher goal in the integration of Chinese and western art.

Chengzhi Huang, the curator of Changliu Art Museum gives a speech as the host of the exhibition. Firstly, he acknowledges Master Guosong Liu’s visit. Master Liu is highly respected as the father of modern ink and wash painting, who wins a high status in modern art circle, takes the lead in Taiwan and brings profound influence to ethnic Chinese in modern painting as he has been invited to give lectures in HongKong and China mainland. It would be not easy to have Master Liu here if it was not for an important exhibition. He also expresses his gratitude for the kind words and guidance given by Master Liu to encourage the artist.
The Opening Ceremony
Curator Huang considers that a great artist is suppose to remain thriving even after 3 or 5 decades, rather than gives a flash in a pan and degrades into a overblown blossom. He shares a few realizations in his studies of several years. As that the key and necessary element is innovation, the other point is unique and personal style, the acknowledgment in the community of scholars, and the last one is the resonance and affection from collectors. These aspects may not work as precise indicators to measure the investment value of art works, but they are not far off. However, the creations in this exhibition basically meets these conditions. It was amazing and impressive that one of Fapeng Zhu’s painting was sold at more than 10 million RMB in auction market lately. He welcomes all the guests to take this opportunity to savor every work of Master Zhu and believes this would a rewarding visit for them.

After the speech made by the curator, all the distinguished guests are invited to take a photo together in front of the stage to leave a great memory for the opening. The exhibition attracts many collectors and guests to stop in front of each painting for enjoyment, coming with lingering and prevalent praises about the art works. The spectators regard it as a high level art exhibition and expect Fapeng Zhu to hold more exhibitions in Taiwan, bring more entertainment for art lovers in Taiwan and move forward the art exchanges between two shores.

The profile of the artist:
Fapeng Zhu is a national artist in China, a member ofChinese Artists Association.He has been rated as one of the top 60 painters of Chinese painting in the past six decades since the founding of PRC byChina Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), as well as the top 100 artists winning Artron AMI of modern Chinese ink painting in 2010 and 2011 and one of the eight great artists ofcontemporary painting in China. In recent years, his works have been nominated for auction by several leading Chinese auction companies, including China Poly Group, Hanhai, Guardian Auction and Rombon company in spring seasons. In his free-sketch painting, the original works are integrated with traditional Chinese painting skills and the essence of modern western painting in result of magnificent, refined and elegant art. The distinct style and vigor of this famed artist is highly appreciated by collectors.
The price of his works has soared rapidly since 2007, from 2000 to 50000 RMB per square chi. It goes up 25 times in five years at the average increase of up to 70%. Part of his works has been collected in National Museum of China, National Art Museum of China, Beijing Great Hall and other pavilions. In 2014, the PRC Consulate General in San Francisco and Chicago also collected Fapeng Zhu’s creation.
