ANALYSIS OF INK AND WASH PAINTING BY FAPENG ZHU
Calligraphy and ink are the two integral parts in Chinese painting. It basically requires the painter to perform ink in calligraphy and display calligraphy in ink during the painting. All different calligraphy methods are bound to the changing of ink, while it’s not easy to make it appealing in the changing ink. The way it is sensed can be improved through practicing and enhancing the nature of painter. A thick touch without a strength character is tend to define a messy and lifeless picture, which is in lack of expression and stroke force of Chinese painting.
The painter is focused to present a school of fish in water. The dynamic bodies, flowing tail, rigid scale and powerful posture are naturally set out in each dot, sketch and brush. In the background above the fish, there are jagged and bony branches of varied plants. The image of swimming fishes in the center stands out against the dark leaves and orchids. The scripts, the painting and the seal just go together to contribute the perfect matches to each of them.
The critical feature of form sense in Chinese painting is referred to organic, harmonic and rhythmical combination of brushwork of ink and color based on lines in different ways. This element is well performed in “Crane Painting” by Fapeng Zhu, which is showcased on mall.artxun.com. The painting is composed of well-spaced bamboo and cranes and well-balanced lights and shades. It presents affordable arrangement of thick and soft ink, flowing with smooth lines, against any untidy or superimposed impact. Furthermore, the painter polishes the painting with scripts and seals to get adequate composition, setting the items of each other.
